Civil Celebrancy FAQs
I am sure you will have lots of questions so please don't hesitate email me at mailto:[email protected] and we can arrange an informal chat. If you prefer to phone call me on 07850119198
Q What is a civil celebrant?
A civil celebrant is someone who has been trained to create and perform weddings and other ceremonies.
Q Why would I choose an independent celebrant?
Unlike many religious ceremonies, civil celebrants are not tied to a particular location or form of words. If you are after a ceremony that is as individual as you then a civil celebrant will make it happen.
Q What training have you had to do this work?
I have trained with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, from whom I have a Certificate in Marriage and Family Celebrancy.
Q What is the legal status of what you do?
The majority of ceremonies require no legal element - they are, as it states, 'ceremonial'. The exceptions to this are marriages and civil partnerships where the law requires us to do certain things. But you have plenty of choice about how you meet the legal criteria and still have the ceremony of your dreams. See the weddings section for more details or give me a call so I can explain your choices to you.
Q How involved will I be?
Exactly as much or as little as you wish. Many people who are celebrating a big life event want to get stuck in and enjoy the time we'll spend shaping the perfect ceremony. Others would rather seek my advice, answer a few questions and leave me to do the majority of the work. Whichever you choose, I promise I'll listen, learn and consult, and come back to you as many times as you need me to. It's your ceremony and you have the last word.
Q How much does it cost?
My fee depends very much on the kind of ceremony you want, what's involved, and where it's all going to take place. But to give you some idea, typically fees for a ceremony are around £500. Baby naming usually a bit less at £300. If substantial travel is involved I will also quote you a figure for expenses, but rest assured, once we've met or spoken for a free no-obligation consultation the fee I'll quote is the final cost with no unexpected extras.
Q What does the fee include?
The fee includes meeting with you to discuss the details of the ceremony, find out more about you, discover your vision for the day, so I can create a ceremony that is personal to you. Drafting the ceremony and the to-ing and fro-ing we'll do until it is just right for you. On the day, I'll be there in plenty of time to lead the ceremony.
